Marine Leisure Association

Formerly known as the National Federation of Sea Schools, the MLA is the trade body for sea schools, charter and marine holiday companies. The Association was formed to provide the public with better protection, guidance and advice, in their relations with marine leisure businesses. The MLA enforce a Code of Conduct and Code of Practice for all its members, and provides a central contact point for information on marine holidays and training.

Maritime and Coastguard Agency

The UK government body, created by amalgamation of the Maritime Safety Agency and the Coastguard. Its brief is to promote and enforce high standards of marine safety, to minimise loss of life, to respond to maritime emergencies 24 hours per day and to minimise environmental damage from marine activities. Their motto is: Safer lives, safer ships, cleaner seas.

Marine Accident Investigation Branch

The MAIB is the UK government body which investigates and reports upon all serious marine accidents and dangerous incidents on UK vessels, or in UK waters. Much can be learned from reading their reports and recommendations, which can assist you in improving your own safety at sea.
